I’ve updated the website to reflect open hours for the Mosaic Supply Shop and Open Studio.  Also; if you need some Open Studio time or to shop in the Supply Shop in addition to these hours, please email, call, or Facebook me ASAP and we’ll see what we can arrange.  For now, here are the scheduled Mosaic Supply Shop HOURS:

I’m happy to announce that the TileMosaicGirl Supply Shop will be OPEN Wednesday, November 23rd from 11 am to 2 pm and Friday (Black Friday!) from 4 – 8 pm with a special holiday 10% OFF EVERYTHING SALE!!!  Come on down and stock up on all your supply needs for your holiday mosaics, or get a gift certificate for that friend or family member that loves mosaics!  I’ve just re-stocked Scorer/Snapper Tools, Leponitt wheeled nippers, Tile Nippers,Weldbond glue,  grout and thinset Colorants, New and existing Millefiori patterns, mirror tiles, and many more great items! I will be there on Wednesday and Kayla, one of the staffers from Pot-Luck, will be staffing the store on Friday.  Hope to see you there!

While you’re at the exhibit, be sure to check out the only all-mosaic studio and gallery in Colorado, Kashi Kari Gallery, also located at 910arts. Their whole space is covered by and decorated with mosaics; it’s amazing! Abbas and Roya are amazing artists and teachers; that’s who I took my first mosaic class from!

And then, one last thing I wanted to share is about another two other terrific exhibits in the Santa Fe Arts District. Most of you know about my love of Mexican art and culture, including their holidays and traditions. I thought I’d share info. about two of the Day of the Dead (El Dia de los Muertos) exhibits going on, in case you’re interested…

Great news!  After numerous requests, I’m finally able this year to offer short, quick “Make a Mosaic Holiday Gift” Workshops!  Thanks to so many of my students who completed the survey on dates and projects for these workshops! There will be (3) offered between now and Christmas; Sunday, November 4 (Serving Trays), Saturday, November 26 (Mosaic Jewelry), and Sunday, December 4 (House Number / Name Plaques).  This is an opportunity to knock out a mosaic in one session, creating a truly unique, made-by-you gift!  The Serving Trays and House Number/Name Plaque workshops will be held at my studio at Pot-Luck, the Pottery Painting Place, while the Mosaic Jewelry workshop will be held at 910Arts in the Santa Fe Drive Arts District, to coincide with a statewide Mosaics exhibit hosted there from November 4-December 17 (more info. to follow).  For complete information on these workshops, see “Mosaic Classes” here.

New Softer, Thinner Ceramic Tiles from Europe!

The Mosaic Supply Shop will be OPEN tomorrow, Sunday, 10/23, from 3:00-4:00 pm and again from 8:15-8:45 pm.   (These hours are so funky b/c they’re before and at the end of a Beginner’s Mosaics class.) I have had to take a hard look at my workload and schedule and have decided that I will change Supply Shop and Open Studio hours for November/December to be By Request Only. This does not mean you have to meet a big minimum to have me come open things, just that I want to make sure that I’m only going when people really need me there and that I’m getting enough time to work on other things that need workin’ (like GLUIN’!)!  (This will include NOT being open this coming Wednesday, October 26, as I had posted; I’ve changed it now). Please just try to give me as much notice as you can (by phone, email, or Facebook) for when you want to come in to shop the Supply Shop and/or do Open Studio time, and I think we can make it work (minimum a day, the further ahead the better for me to be able to make it)!  Especially for you out-of-towners; make sure and let me know you’re coming; I want to make sure you can get what you want when you’re here!  I’ll make sure, too, to add time before each upcoming class to have it open, so that’ll be posted well ahead of time. And, if there are enough students in the upcoming “Make a Holiday Mosaic Gift” workshops that want an Open Studio time shortly thereafter to finish up their pieces more, we can make that happen.

I want to share exciting news about Supply Shop items…I have MANY new millefiori patterns and sizes and colors that I have never had before; they’re really cool! And, super exciting, is the new, beautiful, bright-colored ceramic tile I’ve gotten in from Europe; they’re thinner and softer than the ones here and they cut and shape amazingly easy!!! For those of you (like me) that have always wanted to do more w/ ceramic tile in mosaics, these babies are the answer!  (See artist Flair Robinson on Facebook or Flickr to see examples of the amazing pieces she creates with these tiles!)  They come in 6×6″ tiles only, but an amazing array of colors. And, I’ve got sampleboards w/ all the colors, so if there’s something you want that I don’t have, we’ll just add it to the next order and get it in! Lastly, I still have a fair amount of the wonderful Van Gogh and mirror glass tiles, diamonds and super thin “toothpicks” that everyone seems to love and lots of glass gems in different colors, shapes and sizes that I’ve marked down to $1.00 per 1 pound!!

Please let me know if you see any difficulties in these plans as far as your needs for mosaics and holiday gifts and we’ll go from there. More Colors of NEW European Ceramic Tiles

Come on out this Saturday, October 1st between 9 am and 4 pm for the super-cute, wonderful Fall festival at the Littleton Friends of the Museum and Library Show!  It’s held in Ketring Park, an awesome setting with beautiful trees, a lake, and a living history museum complete with all kinds of fuzzy farm animals!  Several groups run the food concessions that center around relaxing areas of Fall hay bales! ALL items at the juried show are handmade by the artisans, who are present with their wares.  You can find Ketring Park South of Littleton Blvd. between Broadway and Santa Fe (click the link for a map).  I’ll be in Booth #D32 (almost or exactly the same as last year), which is on the South side of the show, about midway between the two park-bordering steets of Gallup and Lakeview.  I’ll have TONS of new Mosaic Jewelry, Mosaic Pet Tags, Mosaic Bookmarks & Purse Holders, Mosaic Yard Stakes, Mosaic Mirrors, Mosaic Frames, Mosaic Switchplates, Mosaic Tables and Plant Stands, Mosaic Garden Pots, and anything else I’m forgetting or overlooking!  Would love to see you come out!

Good news; I now have the early Fall classes posted here on the website, as well as the September hours for the Mosaic Supply Shop and Open Studio times.  There will be a Mosaic Jewelry class in mid-September, a Tempered “Crash” Glass Mosaics class starting in late October, and a Beginner’s Mosaics class in October.  I am also working on scheduling several one-night “Make a Mosaic Gift” classes for November and December for a great way to make sure you get those holiday gifts made!

After 6 months in my new space at Pot-Luck (can you believe it?!), I have gotten a feel for what kinds of hours might work best for the Mosaic Supply Shop and Open Studio Time. Starting this month, I’ll be changing the hours to one day a week, with more nighttime hours. This should better accommodate those of you that cannot come during daytime hours.  (Several dates also include afternoon hours for those of you that still want to come during the daytime!)  Until I can assess whether this new scheduling will work better for more people, please let me know if you are having difficulties meeting the dates and times and we can probably alter the dates/hours a little to fit your schedule.  You can find each month’s Supply Shop and Open Studio Time hours (which are one in the same, BTW!) on their respective web pages (click links) as well as on my Facebook page.  I am also now going to include each month’s hours on my voicemail, if that’s an easier place for you to check.

Starting the Monday after next, July 25th, is an entirely new, requested-by-continuing-students class, Mixing Ceramics into Mosaics / ‘Pique Assiette’ Class! This class will involve choosing and painting (flat and/or 3-D) ceramics from the shop on the first session, after which they will be glazed, fired, and ready for us by the 2nd class. We’ll then take our ceramics and mix them together with tiles or other tesserae into a beautiful 2- or 3-D mosaic. We don’t even have to grout these mosaics! This is a great way to be able to truly personalize your tesserae by painting the ceramics with whatever words, images, or colors that you want! You can also bring any ceramic or porcelain family or garage sale treasures you’ve been saving to work into your piece! Because this is such a different form of mosaic (that’s been around for 1,000s of years, actuallly!), you don’t need to have taken a prior mosaic class!

Class runs (2)  Monday nights; July 25th and August 1, 5:30-8:30 pm each night. I know many of you were interested in and requested this class, so sign up now! Join us this Sunday, May 22nd for a walking tour of the mosaics of the Bonnie Brae neighborhood of South Denver. The neighborhood’s mosaics have been featured in The Denver Post, a story of residents banding together to beautify their surroundings, especially the alleyways, while getting to know each other better while learning a new craft.  http://bonniebraealleyart.com/ The resident who started the project was originally inspired by the outdoor mosaic work of Abbas Khajeaian, owner of the wonderful Kashi Kari Gallery in Denver, where I took my very first mosaic class!

We’ll meet at 12 noon at Bonnie Brae Ice Cream at University and Ohio (799 S. University Blvd.); http://www.bonniebraeicecream.com/directions.htm . Wear comfortable shoes and weather-friendly clothing and we’ll check out some cool outdoor mosaic murals! I can’t wait! After the tour, my TileMosaicGirl studio and shop will be open for Open Studio Time and Supply Shop shopping from 1-4 pm!

TileMosaicGirl is a short drive from Bonnie Brae; you can go South on University from Bonnie Brae about 3/4 mile to I-25 South.  Follow about a mile, one exit to Colorado Blvd. Go South on Colorado about a mile until you see the old University Hills Shopping Plaza on the left (Panera, ACE, and Jo-Ann’s).
