Come check out a great local market here in the Denver area; Sweet William Market at Stapleton; you’ll find it at the end of the roundabout in the “29th Ave.” business district of Stapleton, just off Quebec at 29th Ave.  It’s only open from 9-2, so come early before the cupcake truck runs out, the live music stops playing, and all the ‘good stuff’ is gone!  I’ll be there with all kinds of new mosaic finery; jewelry, pet tags, garden stakes, frames, trays, tables, wall art, etc., etc.!  Come on out and meet me if you haven’t already and let’s ‘talk some mosaics’! Class registrations and information also available at the market; come ask me your questions and see which class is right for you!

    Amanda Edwards/Mandolin Mosaics

    Staci Sterenberg

Starting the Monday after next, July 25th, is an entirely new, requested-by-continuing-students class, Mixing Ceramics into Mosaics / ‘Pique Assiette’ Class! This class will involve choosing and painting (flat and/or 3-D) ceramics from the shop on the first session, after which they will be glazed, fired, and ready for us by the 2nd class. We’ll then take our ceramics and mix them together with tiles or other tesserae into a beautiful 2- or 3-D mosaic. We don’t even have to grout these mosaics! This is a great way to be able to truly personalize your tesserae by painting the ceramics with whatever words, images, or colors that you want! You can also bring any ceramic or porcelain family or garage sale treasures you’ve been saving to work into your piece! Because this is such a different form of mosaic (that’s been around for 1,000s of years, actuallly!), you don’t need to have taken a prior mosaic class!

Class runs (2)  Monday nights; July 25th and August 1, 5:30-8:30 pm each night. I know many of you were interested in and requested this class, so sign up now! Email me at tilemosaicgirl@gmail.com and I’ll email you an invoice to pay through paypal (you don’t need a paypal account to pay this way). Cost is $125 for class and $50 for materials fee ($55 if you need safety glasses). Check out the photos of several very different examples of this form of mosaics from some wonderful mosaic artists!

    June 23rd, 2011adminArtists, Handmade/Crafters, Small Business

First craft show of the season, and this month I’m at Stapleton’s Sweet William Market, a great little mix of crafts, antiques, food, music, and general merriment! Sweet William has a wonderful ‘feel’ to it; on the grass at ‘The Green’ at Stapleton, on the other side of the traffic circle from where the 2-block span of businesses for the 29th Avenue Town Center ends. (The Green is bordered by 29th Ave. & 29th Place and Roslyn and Syracuse Streets).  There is plenty of free parking in the lots behind the Town Center businesses.  You can find the Town Center at Quebec St. and 29th Avenue, just South of Montview.  The Market is Saturday, June 25th from 9 am – 2 pm only; so be sure and don’t miss that little window of time!

I will have mostly NEW items including whole new, never before seen collections of Mosaic Dog and Cat Tags for your sweet babies and recycled and upcycled Garden Stakes to further beautify your space.  I’ll also have lots of new mosaic jewelry, frames, mirrors, furniture, garden items, and I can’t even think of what else! If you’ve never seen my Easy Rider gallery piece, it’ll be making a special appearance as well.  I’m happy to announce, too, that fellow mosaic artist and teacher Cristin Buys will also be displaying some of her amazing work in the TMG booth!  We’ll be at booth #S12, on the SE corner of the park.  Come on out and see us and take a gander around at all the cool stuff!

    May 18th, 2011adminUncategorized

Join us this Sunday, May 22nd for a walking tour of the mosaics of the Bonnie Brae neighborhood of South Denver. The neighborhood’s mosaics have been featured in The Denver Post, a story of residents banding together to beautify their surroundings, especially the alleyways, while getting to know each other better while learning a new craft.  http://bonniebraealleyart.com/ The resident who started the project was originally inspired by the outdoor mosaic work of Abbas Khajeaian, owner of the wonderful Kashi Kari Gallery in Denver, where I took my very first mosaic class!

We’ll meet at 12 noon at Bonnie Brae Ice Cream at University and Ohio (799 S. University Blvd.); http://www.bonniebraeicecream.com/directions.htm . Wear comfortable shoes and weather-friendly clothing and we’ll check out some cool outdoor mosaic murals! I can’t wait! After the tour, my TileMosaicGirl studio and shop will be open for Open Studio Time and Supply Shop shopping from 1-4 pm!

TileMosaicGirl is a short drive from Bonnie Brae; you can go South on University from Bonnie Brae about 3/4 mile to I-25 South.  Follow about a mile, one exit to Colorado Blvd. Go South on Colorado about a mile until you see the old University Hills Shopping Plaza on the left (Panera, ACE, and Jo-Ann’s). Just after the Plaza entrance, you’ll see a Batteries Plus; we’re right next door to that and you can turn Left into our parking lot (park in plaza lot around fence if needed; not the bank lot).  TMG @Pot-Luck, the Pottery Painting Place is at 2620 S. Colorado Blvd., Denver, CO 80222. Hope to see you on Sunday!

I’ve added a June Beginner’s Mosaics Class to the schedule! Come on down and learn this great craft/art and have a great time getting out of the daily grind and into something that takes you away into the land of creativity!  Class sizes are kept deliberately small so each student has adequate attention. Detailed instructions, tips, and techniques are provided; this is no “just do it!” class! (But, we have great fun and lots of creative freedom at the same time!)  See the Classes page for more details. Register ASAP; registrations taken on a first come, first served basis!

FYI, everyone; I’ve posted the April and May Open Studio & Supply Shop hours on the “Supply Shop” page. Remember that Open Studio Time is available for you to come start a new mosaic or work on an existing piece. You don’t have to have taken a Beginner’s class at all or through me, but you should be operating at a minimum of a beginner’s level, because Open Studio Time does not include teaching. It does, however, include almost everything you need to work on mosaics: ceramic & glass tiles (others available in the Supply Shop at an extra cost), adhesives, tools, supplies, grout, sealer, etc. for only $10 an Hour! Either bring your own base/substrate or buy one there at a nice low cost. I have frames, mirrors, boxes, plaques, decorative birdhouses, etc. available.

If you’re looking for some instructional mosaic time, we can put together a class or a group event or party with as few as 4 people (adults or kids). Contact me and we can discuss your needs and what dates and times will work. This is great for “Girls Nite Out” type events, birthday parties, clubs, etc.  Or, if you and 3 or more friends or family members want your own, private class in one of my ongoing areas or another, we can customize it to your desires.
